A new instrument by ASCEE

Sound levels and spectra, on a Pi.

PiCoustica turns a Raspberry Pi into a self-contained all-in-one acoustic analysis instrument. It captures, processes and analyses sound in real time and calculates calibrated levels in dB SPL. Power it on and it is ready within seconds, with nothing else to install.

  • Runs stand-alone
  • 256 GB SSD onboard
  • Measurement and analysis software included
  • No network required

Why PiCoustica

An acoustic lab in a single box

Everything you need for professional acoustic data acquisition. From sensor to analysis: acquisition, calibrated sound-level metering and spectral analysis in one stand-alone device.

2-channel DAQ

Two inputs with 24-bit ADC's and IEPE support, compatible with measurement microphones and accelerometers.

Runs stand-alone

A complete lab measurement unit. Power it on and your measurement interface is ready in a couple of seconds.

No network connection required

Measure anywhere. PiCoustica does not need internet, a cloud service or a license server to operate.

256 GB SSD onboard

You will not easily run out of disk space. More than 80 hours of two-channel recording at 48 kHz.

Measurement and analysis software included

PiCoustica is provided including measurement software. It comes with ACME pre-configured.

Competitive all-in price

€ 1,399.- all-in for the measurement hardware and the software, including a perpetual license and updates.

Hardware

A Raspberry Pi with a professional DAQ front-end

PiCoustica is a Raspberry Pi based acoustic data acquisition and analysis system. The hardware combines a Raspberry Pi model 5 B with an analog input front-end that includes IEPE.

PiCoustica provides two synchronous analog inputs, with separate ADC's. The connectors are 10-32 coaxial. Adapter cables for BNC connectors are provided.

The Raspberry Pi provides an HDMI output. Connect a monitor, power supply and a keyboard + mouse and your data aquisition can start!

  • Base platform Raspberry Pi 5 Model B, 8GB RAM
  • Input channels 2, single-ended with IEPE
  • Resolution 24-bit
  • Input coupling DC, AC, AC + IEPE
  • Self noise 207 nV/√Hz
  • Sample rate Configurable between 10 kHz and 51.2 kHz
  • Input range ±5 V
  • Connectors 10-32 coax & screw (female).
  • Cables 2x adapter cables to female BNC
  • Onboard storage 256 GB SSD
  • Recording time ≈ 80 h (2 ch @ 48 kHz)

Software

Measurement and analysis software is pre-configured

ACME (ACoustic Measurement Environment) is a multi-purpose acoustic measurement and analysis tool. On PiCoustica it comes fully installed and configured for the onboard inputs. Power on the Raspberry Pi and ACME starts, ready to measure within a couple of seconds. Nothing further to install, nothing else to set up.

Measure

  • DAQ configuration presets: sample rate, channel selection, IEPE / AC coupling and channel naming
  • Data recording, with automatic file numbering and annotation
  • Open measurement file format: HDF5, no vendor lock-in
  • Real-time monitors: peak programme meter with clipping indication, signal viewer and spectrum viewer, spectrogram, sound level viewer
  • Sensor calibration tool

Analyze

  • Sound levels with A, C and Z frequency weighting. Fast, Slow, and Impulse time weighting
  • Overall, octave-band and 1/3-octave-band levels
  • Sound level statistics: maximum, peak and equivalent levels
  • FFT analysis: auto powers with configurable window, FFT length, and overlap
  • Transfer function and coherence
  • Insertion loss
  • Plot editing, comparison and export to XLSX, CSV and NPZ. Export of raw data to WAV files

Note: PiCoustica includes the core ACME measurement and analysis functionality. The µZ impedance tube module is not included. Documentation is available at acme.ascee.nl.
